Our long-standing history

We’ve been doing what we love since 1988.

It was in 1988 that we first cycled from the desert climes of Lake Turkana in Kenya, up near the border of Ethiopia, all the way down across the Equator to Mombasa on the Indian Ocean. We covered 1,299km in 12 days with 3 cyclists to raise money for a heart operation for a young Kenyan. There was even enough money leftover to buy him a bike. It was then that our passion for combining African travel, exercise and charity was born.

Our history in Africa dates back as far as 1872 and it is documented that our family settled in Kenya in 1906. As a result, we grew up learning about her national parks, mountains and lakes, the coast and desertlands, people, culture, wildlife and birds. It is this intimate knowledge that sets us apart from our competitors in the industry and always has done.

We started small with our very first travel company, a bicycle business on the coast of Kenya, in 1990 and ran sundowner tours for tourists -an incredibly popular attraction at the time.

We then set up the company Leisure Activity Safaris in the UK, a cycling safari tour to Kenya which included exploring the Rift Valley lakes and the Maasai Mara via the Kerio Valley escarpments and Kericho highland tea areas.

Our business expanded to cycling the northern Tanzania safari circuit from Lake Jipe and Chala in Tsavo to Tarangiri and on to the Ngorongoro Crater -an extraordinary trip which culminated in climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest freestanding mountain in the world.

Word about our cycling safaris spread and soon our growing base of clients were asking for new routes, new areas and even new countries. As a result, we began Fly-Bike-Drive Australia taking groups to climb the majestic Aires Rock & snorkel the Great Barrier Reef.

We didn’t stop there. Nor did we limit ourselves to cycling, taking on more and more ideas and suggestions.

Our Activity Safaris company now runs trips across Africa, including Malawi and Botswana, Europe and the Middle East as well. We organise luxury safaris, golfing holidays, horseback extravaganzas, desert treks and more.
